When production began in 1970, WILOFA laid the foundation for the consistent, material- and function-oriented development of diamond instruments.

The design of our instruments follows four clearly defined quality criteria:
biocompatible, high cutting performance, atraumatic, and break-resistant.

These characteristics ensure a defined preparation geometry, high cutting performance, thermal control, and tested material strength - for reproducible results in clinical practice and prosthetics.

Biotechnological

Our instruments are biotechnically designed, as they have no sharp edges that wear down prematurely. The working surfaces are rounded, even on the cylinders.
This preserves the structure of the tooth structure and creates the conditions for precise impression-taking.
Small, rounded instrument shapes that promote defect-oriented, minimally invasive preparation.
Graded grain sizes ensure precisely defined preparation margins and improve the fit in prosthetics.

High cutting power

Our diamond field is electroplated over several hours. The retention layer remains flat, with no disruptive bulges. Each grain is embedded shallowly and cuts unimpeded.

On the left, you can see WILOFA quality; the image below shows a comparison tool. WILOFA embeds each grain for maximum cutting power, whereas the excessive depth of embedding in the comparison product significantly reduces cutting power.

Atraumatic

WILOFA diamond instruments are atraumatic and preserve tooth structure because electropolished cooling channels between the diamond grains capture a large amount of grinding debris and allow the cooling fluid to circulate. Each diamond grain clears itself.

Result: You need less pressure; the bur does not smear and barely heats the tooth structure.
This is atraumatic and preserves tooth structure.

Shatterproof

WILOFA diamond instruments are particularly break-resistant because they are made from a specially developed stainless steel that exhibits exceptionally high elasticity.

To ensure WILOFA’s high quality over the long term, we rely exclusively on German steel suppliers. In addition, every single batch of the stainless steel used is independently validated by a German university.

After shaping, a targeted heat treatment (tempering) increases the steel’s strength to approximately 2,000 N/mm² and gives the instruments their high durability and reliability.
